Earlier this summer I was asked if I was interested in “re-imagining” the Diana+ analogue camera by Lomography as part of an ongoing world tour. I accepted, a little uneasily since I am not one that excels at tactile design. I imagined several possibilities, including a motion-triggered shutter. But the mechanics were way beyond me, and I didn’t have that kind of time. Instead I built a barn wood birdhouse around the camera. Even this was a challenge, as you will see from my less-than-stellar wood glue work.
You can see my Camera-Birdhouse here on the Lomography website. It’s nicer in person, and the camera inside is removable and fully functional! The Camera-Birdhouse will eventually be sold on eBay with proceeds going to the David Suzuki Foundation.
Anyhow, if you’re in the GTA the pieces will be on display at the Lomography gallery store starting Friday, September 9th.
You can find out more about Lomography and analogue photography (like with film, the IRL version of what your Instagram app makes your digi photos look like) at the Diana World Tour Microsite.
